An athletes' vertical jump is the single most important objective performance measurement available for identifying raw speed and explosive power. An athlete's 1RM strength is the single most important objective performance measurement available for assessing absolute strength. Training specifically to increase vertical jump as a critical component of an athlete's overall strength and power training program combined with specific training targeted to increase an athlete's 1RM strength as measured in the vertical lift or dead lift, leg press or squat, chest press and core pull will facilitate the development of an athlete's ability to produce maximum power.
